hi just need some advice my mum has been with credit counseling a debt management company run by the goverment for 7 years now and this month is supposed to be her last payment to them...
well all the small debts will be clear..but the last payment to bos visa card was sitting at £200 approx then she gets a call from credit counseling now saying that she owes £5,500 to the bos visa card and it's the interest thats been slapped on over the last 7 years.
We are in shock as we never knew this would happen at the end of the agreement she's already payed them £10,000 she is so distraught i really need some advice what to do next..thanx for listening

Sorry to hear this stressing news for your mum and self.. Did she get advice to ask for them to freeze interest payments, also would she get statements.. I would see if she can get a cca, for a £1 postal order, to see what the interest is, from outset. Would you know if she had any ppi on the card, if she was mis-sold one.. I believe lot of us, who had dmp's find that we still owe due to interest payments etc..life is so tough,, good luck to your mum and yourself0

Thanx for replying linda she took it out with the government owned credit counseling she didn't know anything about the interest thats how it was a shock but we are not the only ones who have to suffer this..
some company phoned my mum and asked if they could deal with her ppi's and she said ye then filled everything out 8 weeks later they just told her she was due nothing back.. i don't understand why she didn't get anything back but suppose thats how it goes there are worse things that could happen just have to plod on and help her deal with this...thanx again linda for replying...take care0 -
I would write a letter to BoS (First Class, signed for - with a tracking number. Keep the receipt so you can prove you sent the letter) saying that they know your mum has been in financial difficulties for many years and the interest and charges on the account are serving only to make that situation worse and increase the time it takes to pay them back. Ask that they cease all interest charges on the account and immediately refund the previously added interest. Make sure you put in the letter that they have 40 days to reply and if they do not correct the situation you will take the case to the Financial Ombudsman Service. When they reply and refuse to stop the charges (they probably will) you then call the Financial Ombudsman Service and explain your situation. They will take on your case and then you just have to wait and see what happens, but you can argue that you mum has paid off all the money she owes over a long period of time and for them to continue adding interest in her financial state is bad practise.

Ben thank you so much for your reply it's given me a little hope when there was none, my mum fell into difficulty after my dad died 9 years ago but from there she has stuck to the management plan and never missed a payment so i suppose no harm in trying to see what happens..i will definitely do what you have suggested i will now sleep a little better tonight..thanx ben i will post updates.
take care ben0 -
That's ok, just expect delays from your bank as they won't want to address the issue. Someone else on
This forum has had success using the FOS, so it's got to be worth a try!LBM - 11/08

hi this is a disgrace on their part, I though i would give you a little boost i have used the ombudsmen service for gas and electric against edf and i have also used the ombudsman against talk talk every time i have been in contact with the ombudsman service for what every reason after failing with the said companys in writeing i have always been taken seriously and have won every time so don't be affraid start as mentioned by others forum users say by writing a complaint demanding that interest is refunded then if refused you have the grounds to take the matter further its just about ticking all the right boxes first and you will then get some light at the end of the tunnel remember its not a quick process but don't panic.
p.s you will not believe how angry i feel to the way your mums been treated its disgracefull i wish you all the best good luck :cool:0 -
hi jobdone uv given us a boost just read your post out to my mum and she feels better already thank you so much...and i will definitely start this process on monday..thank you so much for ur help..

CCCS, if that is who helped, is not government owned, it is creditor funded. I am sorry you got the wrong impression.
You need to get onto them and ask why that creditor didn't freeze interest, and more importantly, why it has taken so long to find out.0 -
thank you gimpsdad my mum was told from them at the beginning they were goverment funded it was actually that bank of scotland that put my mum on to them and funnily enough it's them that didn't freeze the interest all the rest of the companies that my mum was paying the money to did freeze the interest they were the only ones that didn't..my mum is paying £300 a month to pay all them off and next month was going to be the final payment because all of them was fully paid, then the CCCS tell my mum no you still have to pay all the interest which is £5,500 that the bank of scotland visa has mounted up over the period my mum struggled to pay all this off as she's a disabled pensioner..
now the CCCS still want £300 until the interest on the bos visa is paid in full i think this is really unfair as she's never missed a payment and went without things to pay it..but i'm going to do my best to fight this for my mum..
..sorry for rambling on but it's upsetting to see my mum devastated with all this as she did her best to clear all her debts...thank you gimpsdad for ur reply and take care0 -
You know you can just thank the CCCS for their services and go it on your own don't you? Then she can do what she likes.LBM - 11/08
