Latest VW Golf (mk6) won't start!!!
Hi All,
Can't believe my 3 and a bit year old car wouldn't start this morning. It tried when I first turned the key but after that was completely silent and not having any of it. Anyone know what this could be? Is this normal for a VW just over 3 years old?
Thank you.

Flat battery ??
If the car is 3 years old and the battery is the original, it could be not holding charge. Or did you leave parking lights/interior light on all night, or leave something plugged in charging all night (satnav/mobile phone?), Are you certain the boot light turns off when you close the boot?
Have you left the car standing for some days? or used it for lots of short journeys recently, so it hasn't had chance to charge the battery - esp problematical if you use aircon / demisting lots.I try not to get too stressed out on the forum. I won't argue, i'll just leave a thread if you don't like what I say.0 -
Is it diesel engine or petrol engine ?0

Yes it is Normal for VW, dont believe that reliable junk they spout, once they start playing up they do it in style.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0

Dont leave the lights on next time you park up?
3 years of short journey's killed the battery maybe?
Or you didnt upgrade the battery when it was new.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Hi Guys,
Just to let you know have now replaced the battery (£85!!!) and all is good. Have to admit don't use the car that much and have left the internal light on overnight more than once. A lesson learnt!
Thanks0 -
Sounds like a jealous non VW owner;)
A flat battery is not really a VW fault

And now for another point of view...
Bought an 03 Fiesta from new, back to the garage 9 times in 14 months - ECU, stereo, driver's window, passenger window, power steering, boot lock - list goes on)
Then bought a 2000 Golf on 100k miles. Owned it till 175k miles... killed the alternator in the 07 floods... That's it (apart from serviceable items)

Got a 57' 1.6 Tdci Fiesta not had a problem since owning in 2010 with 26k miles on it and a new steering rack (finding out a few days after purchase!), although air filer will need changing soon. Passed MOT with flying colours recently.
Also own a 61' 2.0 Tdi GT with coolant failure on motorway so its the luck of the draw, although other than that the golf has been completely problem freeLBM: 22.12.2010 :j Self-managed DMP start 29.1.2011DMP Mutual Support Thread No: 4130 -

The interior light switches itself off after 10 mins with no key in ignition. Are you shure that you did not leave it with the door not fully clicked shut ? This will keep the interior light on and flat the battery, I know because I have done it.You scullion! You rampallian! You fustilarian! I’ll tickle your catastrophe (Henry IV part 2)0
