I want to buy a new lawn mower

Hi
This is my first post and I'd like to say hello to everyone. You are such a great community and I'm really proud to have joined you all. I hope I, too, can contribute to some great money saving offers in the future.
I need some help and advice please. My flymo lawn mower went up in smoke (literally) over the weekend
. I looked into replacing the motor but it costs around £56 to replace!!! The lawn mower is around 5 yrs old.
I think it might be better to just buy a new one. Does anyone know of any good deals on mowers at the moment. I'm looking to spend around £70 - 80 for one.
Thanks in advance

Welcome to MSE
Could you specify what kind of mower you are after. Another hover or a wheeled one? Petrol/Electric?
I would have a look around the DIY Centers first (Focus,Homebase, etc) first as spring is on the way and they might want to start shifting them. A few offers on where i work (Argos).Tesco have a few but no offers yet, Or have a nose round any local garden centers - might be able to get a few quid knocked off and/or have a demo of one/on one first.

Hi Stockie
Thanks for your advice. I'm after an electric hover mower. I'll have a nose around in the diy stores tomorrow and see if I can pick up a bargain.0 -

Wow!! That's a really good price - almost the same price as the motor for the flymo that went up in smoke!!! Thanks rp5017. I'll certainly look into that.
I don't know about the rotary mowers at Argos. It seems like a really good deal - they're really cheap. I've never used a rotary mower. Are they any good?
Thanks all for your help.0 -
How big is your lawn? Have you thought about getting a good old fashioned push mower, just think about the money you could save on electicity as well as the exercise you will get.0

Iv just seen the Flymo 350 at Argos, £69.99... apparently it has £10 off ..

When did you buy your flymo? ... we bought a flymo last year and it turns out it was one of the "dodgy batch" .. we only found out a few weeks ago... and recieved a full refund,,, we have been using it for about 16 months!
list of "dodgy flymo's" http://www.argos.co.uk/static/StaticDisplay/includeName/productRecalls.htm"Do not look back and grieve over the past, for it is gone, and do not be troubled about the future, for it has yet to come. Live in the present, and make it so beautiful that it will be worth remembering"0
