advice for car laon, with car allowance from work, but with bad credit.

Options
does anyone know of car loan/ leasing company for people with not a great credit rating.
5 years ago I was in a job where the bottom fell out of the market they changed the way we were paid and consequently my wages were unpredctable I got into debt not because I'd taken anything out I just struggled to pay what I already had.
I'm in a better job, have been with this company 18 mths just received a promotion and a car allowance. I need to get a car but was turned down last year (previous to my promotion) for a loan through a dealership.
My problem is that I now have more disposable income but am concerned that it will not make any difference? any advice help please??

Its difficult to advise without more information about your 'not great credit rating'.

What is actually on your report? - is it a few missed payments? do you have defaults? CCJs? are all the debts paid off now and are they showing as such on your credit file? If there are defaults how old are these?

Do you need a car on a loan? what about buying a runaround to get you about for a a few months whilst you save up the car allowance to be able to afford something a little better?

Alternatively - might be worth considering approaching your own bank that you have your wages paid into for a small loan - assuming your account is run well, you haven't been into an unauthorised overdraft etc.

  • HI thanks for that.. no the debt hasnt been paid, its credit cards only 2 amounting to about 1,800 in total they are and have been regularly paid for the last 2 years. I can't afford to buy a car outright, although I do have enough money to start saving it would take me too long, plus I need something reliable as the travelling will mean driving a lot so cannot have it break down.

My account hasn't been over my overdraft for about 2 years either.

I'll check my credit rating but the last time I looked which was beginning of this year, it was about 790 i think? I'm not even sure what that means??
  • just to add, I have NO ccj's.

790 doesn't mean a thing it's what's on your credit report what matters.
