While playing around with the First Direct Mortgage Calculator this popped up.....
Sole applicants must have a minimum salary of £30,000. Joint applicants must either have a minimum combined salary of £50,000, or one party have an individual salary of £30,000 or more.

By the looks of things when I do get my deposit, I won't be able to go to them for a mortgage now! (I have a long way to go but thats neither here nor there)

First Direct are known to be very selective when it comes mortgages.

I dont understand the shocked face that a lender would have a minimum income requirement, lots of them do!
Dont worry about it, save your deposit, buy your house, and dont worry about the imaginary savings of a mortgage thats not available to you.I am a Mortgage Adviser
