I have two problems and if you have an idea on either, please share it with me.
Firstly, I have a very smelly washing machine! I have cleaned the soap and conditioner dispenser, put the temp on 90 and sent it through a full cycle with no clothes or detergents. To no avail!
Secondly, a thermos flask!
My hubby left tropical barley water in it for a week!!!!
It is now permeated with the scent and flavour of the barley water.
I have put soda crystals and boiling water in it three times nw and it's still the same!
Any ideas for either?
I've tried all I can think of so any ideas would be welcome - truly!!!

try putting your machine through a cycle using a bottle of white vinegar, that should clean and deoderise it:)
not sure about the thermos, but sure some knowledgeable person will be along soon with an idea

put a steralising tablet in the thermos with some boiling water. worked for me when it gets that "flask" taste.Opinion on everything, knowledge of nothing.0

Do you think denture tablets would be classed as sterilising tablets?
Thank you to the two people who have responded so far - much appreciated!0 -
The other thing you could try would be a hefty dose of bicarb of soda in the flask and leave for it to absorb the odours for a day or 2 before washing as normal.0

yeah :-D that's what i use.Opinion on everything, knowledge of nothing.0 -
Our flasks were stained inside from coffee and tea over the years.
Once I decided I wanted fruit tea instead of coffee. Lemon and Ginger, I had this and a few days later all of the staining inside just fell out.
I realise you are talking about a smell but I wonder if it would work them same. I assume it was the citrus in the lemon which worked here.0 -
Have you cleaned the filter on the washing machine? I have to clean mine every couple of months or it gets smelly.14 Projects in 2014 - in memory of Soulie - 2/140

I have the same washing machine problem, and I had no idea I needed to clean the filter (doh!). Course I have to find it first.0

another thing to check (after the filter
) might be the outlet pipe, or even where that empties to outside the property.
I once found a mound of soggy leaves covering the bottom of the discharge pipe just above the drain and they were 'knitted' together with bits of fluff & fibre. I do check & clean my filter so I imagine these must have built-up from tiny pieces but had been there a long time!0
