Job Dilemma!!!

Fellow DFW's please help with my dilemma today....

I have been offered a new job the hours are rubbish and the money is too (around 11 000 a year).

Although the job is for an activity instructor which is a job i've been after for ages.

All I do now is hand out leaflets in the street.

I really want to accept this new job but am worried about ther financial implications:confused:

What are your thoughts?

N.B. I am earning about that now but this new job will be in Sheffield which means an increase in petrol bills ansd its Hesley wood-not a place you can get to on public transport/bike.

Hope to hear from you soon, Laura x

I think you have to weigh up the long term implications of this. If this is a career you've been wanting to get into for a long time and there is obviously more opportunity for promotion and higher earnings than with handing out leaflets, then I would suggest it's worth the temporary slowing down of paying off debts.....

Is it a permanent job with the possibilty of extra quals/ promotion? If so, take it. It'll be worth it in the end.

I agree, if it's a job you really want, and you *could* manage on that salary, I would go for it, especially if there is scope to increase your earnings once you have some experience. Good luck, whatever you decide.

Hi Laura. Hesley Wood is doable on public transport, it's just not that easy! From Doncaster, you would be best to catch a train to Meadowhall, and then change to the Huddersfield train which calls at Chapeltown.

From the station at Chapeltown, you could walk through Asda carpark, and then up the hill to Hesley Wood. According to Multimap, it's half a mile between there and the station. The cost is £5.20 return, or there are the options of Railmaster (All train and trams in SY) for £51.40 per month, or Travelmaster (Above plus all buses) for £75 per month.

Is there any chance you can move closer to the job to cut down on petrol?
Can you switch to a more fuel efficient car?
Will you get expenses? (ie mileage)
Will there be room for instance to do work on the side by running your own activities?
Have you asked about the timetable for promotion/training/pay increases/increased hours?

Have you worked out what benefits you will get with this salary and these conditions?
If it's regular hours could you get a part time job on the side?

I'd go for it if I were you, but make sure you're not hitting an iceberg in doing so. Sit down and write out a budget based on your new salary.

I would say take it - in the long term you'll be doing a job you like, and it will get you the experience to apply for better paid ones in a year or so. Perhaps you could still leaflet one day a week or something to cover the increased petrol costs?

Job satisfaction is soooooooo important. If you really want the job, go for it. You can always go back to handing out leaflets/changing employment/looking at ways of improving income at a later date.

    Good luck x
