Suitcases/Luggage - what's good quality?

Options
I want to buy myself a new suitcase - I need something suitable for a long-haul holiday I will take next year, and the Antler suitcase I bought from TK Maxx in 2007 doesn't really hold very much as the zip goes down the 'middle' of the compartment rather than the top!

However, I find with luggage that it's worth spending a bit more to get something that won't get easily damaged or broken wheels etc. I've found my Eastpak backpacks/messenger bags have far outlasted the cheaper items I replaced them with, and I give my luggage a lot of abuse! What are some good reliable brands I should look for in the sales?

I have Tripp branded suitcases from Debenhams- had some of them for over 5 years, have travelled all over the world with them and they are still going strong. I think they come with a 5 year guarantee too!
  • If you are an occasional traveller, then Tripp/ Antler etc will be fine. If you are a frequent traveller, I would invest in Samsonite, Tumi, Briggs and Riley etc.
