Monthly Fuel Allowance

Hi,

We currently have 2 cars but are going to manage with one following BR.

After adding up the total mileage we do which will include my husband going to work, him returning in his lunch break and taking me to work then him picking me up at night will be 100 per day. This is going to cost us £100 per week in fuel. Is this going to seem excessive to the OR?
We live in the country and the buses don't run in time for us for work.

Any help?

  • As long as you let your OR know these circumstances & there is no way round it then I'm sure it wont be a problem. Especially if you are going to give up one of your two cars due to cost. To maintain two on fuel per week would probably cost more than £100, taking into account maintaining them also.

I am also unsure on how much is allowed for certain things.

At present we don't have anything for clothing but have heard that we need to state £20 each?

Also unsure if we are allowed an emergency fund?

The OR's guidance to BR expenditure allowances allow up to £108 per month for a couple, no children, for clothing (more if there are kids of course), housekeeping up to £403 and £10 per month per person in the household as a "contingency" allowance.

There are others, but hope that helps.

Is there anywhere I can see more allowances to help me please?

I was worried as we do spend £400 a month on food as my Husband has a special diet, thought this might be too much.

  • If you had a letter from your husbands dietician (if he has one) then I wouldnt worry. It just depends on the OR to be honest, some are definitely more generous than others.

I was allowed £20 in the 'Emergency Fund'.

As long as you can back up the amounts on your SOA then I can't see a problem. Have you spoken to CAB? Or better still, go www.cccs.co.uk and fill in their online form.

These are the HES figures just for the OR really and please please don't copy these as the OR will then scrutinise every bit of your SOA and BR with a fine tooth comb!! Use your own figures as the OR will ask for receipts (the OR will see your bank statements as well and remember some of your expenses may be higher too).

Can get a letter from his dietician.

Going to the CAB next week.

I did fill in the cccs online form. It said that even though we only had £30 left with 90k of debt, we should still go on a dmp and make token payments of £1 to each!

Been on a dmp for the last 6 years and getting nowhere. Think the day has come for BR.

Hi KimLyn, The most important thing is to put down what you need, not what anyone else says of what a list of figures says, have a deep think about your own particular circumstances and add up what you need, That way when the OR questions you about them, which they will, you will have reasonable answers for them and as long as you can give reasonable answers you will be allowed the expense

As it is a joint BR, will we have two seperate interviews or will the OR just want to speak to one of us?

you will both be interviewed, sometimes together sometimes seperate, depends on the examiner and what they think will get the the full story
