Charged by Equifax but service cancelled

Options
I signed up to a 'free' equifax trial over a year ago and cancelled within the cancellation period, however, when I called the cancel, they were very pushy and insistant that I kept their free email alert service, so I reluctantly agreed.

Now, 1 year on, they have charged me and my husband £2.99 each, which I know isn't a lot, but it's not the point, they did not tell me I would have to pay for this service.

Tried calling equifax and they said to go on their website and log a query through my equifax account, which I do not want to do as I don't want them to turn round and say that I have been using the account therefore the charges stand. They are flatly refusing to refund me. They said all of their calls are recorded so I asked them to check the original call recording as I was definately not told I would be charged for the service but they are not willing to do that unless I go on to their website.

Any ideas who I can go to next? The person I spoke to said they are regulated by the financial ombudsman so thinking to go to them?

When you signed up for that free trial over a year ago, you also agreed to a years trial of "their free email alert service".

At that time you agreed, by ticking an 'I agree' box or something similar, that after one year they would start charging you.

When you cancelled the 'free' trial, they persuaded you to keep "their free email alert service".
At that time they did not need to tell you that you would be charged when the year was up because you had already agreed to that earlier.

Have you now cancelled "their free email alert service"?
