BTL on first mortgage?

Just to put another perspective on this... my Aunt and Uncle lived for many years in accommodation provided by his employer. When he was in his late 50s and made redundant, they were stuck with no-where to live, no easy way of getting a mortgage at their age / lack of job, and not enough savings to buy outright.
I can't comment on how easy it would be for you to get a morgage, but you may want to consider what happens when you are no longer working for your employer, perhaps look for a place to let out that you'd be happy to move into (possibly with family by then) if necessary in the future. If you were living in your employer's place for 25 years you'd then be mortgage free (if you do a repayment mtg) on your rental property, and it would have been (hopefully) paid for by your tenants....0 -
I bought a BTL last year and found that many of the lenders tended to shy away to lending on a student property. They see them as quite 'risky'.0

In general down to the treatment they are likely to receive. Resulting in poorer quality maintenance and finish of the residence reflecting a lower market value.0
