Hi,
Our Nursery put up our fee's by 6% in July 2011, and now another 6% from August 2012.
While I appreciate that costs are rising I would have thoguht 12% (equating to £90 a month) in a year is a tad excessive, especially for a SureStart Nursery which I think is non profit making.
I have drafted a letter to their Board but haven't done anything with it yet.
Do you think this seems excesive and what sort of rise have other experienced recently?

Does your nursery cost £800 per month???
That really is scary.0 -
No.
Feb 2011 approx £530 per month. July 2011 up to £571 per month. August 2012 £616 per month.
Approx £90 / 12%?
It does appear to be still quite cheap in comparison to others (but should be as its Surestart) more complaining about the 12% increase over the period in question.
£800 a month would be quite common though.0 -

Sorry my mistake. I get you now.
12% increase is massive. I know inflation is high, but pay awards haven't been 12% over the last two years. More like 4%.
That really is unreasonable. I would give them a call and look at prices for other facilities in your area. Sorry no first-hand experience to offer on this one.0 -
That's a shocking increase, our nursery hasn't raised prices in 2 years now.
It seems excessive, do you have anything else nearby. I'm in Armagh so can't help but it seems far too much for 1 child, although cheap if for 2 or more0 -
This doesn't help you with rates - thankfully it's many years since I had nursery fees to worry about - but if you are sending that letter your increase isn't 6% + 6% = 12% in 2 years.
It is 616 - 530 = 86/530 x 100 = 16.2%
A staggering increase in the current climate of wage restraint etc!
Hope you can work something out

It is still cheaper than other nursery's in Belfast and our home town of Bangor (most are £37 - £39 a day!!) and the fact it used to be £29 a day is the reason we went to it in the first place but 12% (16.2%!) later doesnt seem so attractive anymore
Going to send the letter tomorrow, already have spoken to the manager and she encouraged me to send it and saw my point of view. thanks for the revised figures Golden0 -
Our goes up every january, 2 years ago I paid 606, we now pay £704!!0
