Barclays and F&Fs

My MIL has kindly offered to loan/give us £200 to help with debts. Two of our Barclays debts are with B'Card CC and Barclays Partner Finance and each are less than £400.

Mr SAAC rang them and BPF said they wouldn't even discuss F&Fs, that Barclays never, ever accept F&Fs and told him he was wasting his time.

Barclaycard person listened, went off and did calculations and said they do do F&Fs with customers but he couldn't offer a F&F today and went on to tell Mr SAAC to ring back another day and try again as he might get a different answer.

BTW, Metropolitan said they'd consider a F&F and gave us a reduction of 25% within a minute. We're going to start negotiations with them by letter to see if they could be persuaded to be a little more generous

Brief update - today Barclaycard says they will consider F&F, suggested a figure that's about 80% of the debt, and asked us to put offer in writing... we'll be offering 20%! Strange situation though. We're wondering whether they have a 'quota' of F&Fs they're allowed to do in a day?

Barclays seem to see things like Barclaycard as seperate from other ops, likely treat BPF similarly - hence all the different answers.

Wouldn't be surprised if they were targetted on F&Fs either, they're very highly targetted, with no service staff on any service line (all sales).
