What is the best way to transfer money from Spain to UK?

Hi,

I live and work in Spain and intend to stay here on a permanent basis. I would like to start making payments for my Student Loan using the euros I earn from Spain.

I have an account with Santander in Spain and HSBC in the UK.

What is the cheapest way to make payments to the student loan company from abroad?

Elephant. Try asking the bank if they have a euro account. I bank with FD and they have a euro account which takes two days to get there as long as you give the swift codes or I think they call them an IBAN & BIC code.

At this point you should be able to transfer at the best rate or move in one lump sum. Though unsure if this could show on internet banking. It would although be worth getting the international number as it will be cheaper then calling or unable to call 0845 numbers from overseas and you sometimes get put as priority call as you calling from overseas (sorry this info is based on FD so I presume the same for HSBC)
