Frozen my leftover rice...??

last week i made too much basmati rice and froze it straight away in those plastic reuseable takeaway containers... this sounds weird but i'm worried about using it now. Is it safe? should it be defrosted before cooking? I was trying too hard x

I wouldn't eat it myself. Rice is rather a problem on the food safety front, more so than meat oddly enough.
Some people on here to safely freeze and re-heat rice with no problems, but I just wouldn't.
Just an idea which works for me, you know those slotted spoons that you use for scooping veg out with? I use one of these to measure dry weight per adult of rice. It looks nowhere near enough but it is when its cooked.0 -
Hi OP
Did you put it in really hot?, if not should be fine.
We tend to reheat rice in boiling water, it reheats & fluffs it out again.
TBH am more afraid of storing meat in the freezer than rice - being a rice eater all my life!
As long as you cool rice down before putting in the fridge/freezer, it will be fine!

I would eat it, just make sure that it's reheated thoroughlymortgage started 31st May 2011 -£59200

I'd eat it. There's plenty of frozzen rice meals in the frozen section of supermarkets. But, I'd have been super-quick to get it frozen in the first instance - and I'd make doubly sure that when I re-heated it, it was piping hot throughout.
It's best to cool it as quick as you can, so if you've served up and realised you've too much, then (instead of eating your meal) quickly rinse the rice through with cold water, then spread it out on a baking tray and shove it in the freezer. You can rebox it later.... but this makes sure it's all frozen ASAP.0 -
i always portion my meals into dishes with rice and freeze and its never been a problem.
I knew you shouldnt reheat cold left over rice from the chinese ect but so far im still alive to tell the tale and to be fair on the odd occassion we ever get takeaway foo that includes rice we gobble it it and dont leve any :-)We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars

I cook dishes with rice in and freeze batches all the time. As with most things, as long as it hasn't been left too long and it thoroughly reheated, it will be fine.
I reheat rice all the time. Leftover Chinese is the breakfast of kings on a Saturday morning. Some days, it's just not worth chewing through the leather straps....

I would use it again no probs. whenever I make curry/chilli I always do a portion with rice for the freezer, a frozen ready meal to reheat in the microwave, you can buy frozen rice in the supermarket. We always have leftover Chinese reheated the next day too and have never ad any problems0

It will be fine. You MUST make sure that it is thoroughly heated completely as this kills the bacteria that can cause any problems.;)[SIZE=2]SPC4 #1395 Aug 11 £135.75/£150
