Steam Cleaners

I have seen these steam cleaners advertised on the shopping channel and wonder if any one has bought one and what they are like.
I have also seen the Vax one advertised but that doesn't mention that it does carpets which is really what I want it for.
Also the Vax one only heats up to 130 degrees where as the other one says it heats to 230 degrees.
I don't want to hire a cleaner as they are aparently very hard to push and I dont think I would manage it.
So if any one has tried them or know any one that has perhaps you could let me know your thoughts etc.
Thanks Sairy

I bought this one and it is absolutely brilliant albeit I had to send the first one back cos it overheated and leaked.

I have a vax - not the one on tv the model down about £60 I think. I use it for both hard floors and carpets ( there is a glider but I don't use it just use it as is). I do have a cylinder steamer that I use every couple of months to do carpets as its a higher temp. Just bought the vax to mop floor and keep carpets fresh as we have a dogFrump to Fab - Solstice Sizzler

I bought a cheap Earlex one a couple of years ago, think it was about £30 and came with a good range of attachments. They were originally made as a wallpaper steamer but then started selling them with attachments for cleaning carpets, tiles, windows etc. For the price I think it's a really good buy. I bought it from my local Screwfix but has to be ordered in.

I have one of these too. I've just stripped the final bit of woodchip from my house (finally) with it. I do occasionally use some of the other attachments but not convinced of there general usefullness other than wallpaper stripping.
I have one of these too I got it from B&Q for about £60 I think. I agree it is great for stripping wallpaper. It is great for washing the tiles in the bathroom they really sparkle but it is quite difficult to us on the higher up tiles. I find the steam water drips down the handle and burns my hands and it is quite a messy process but the end results are outstanding.0 -
I have one and it is great for cleaning non-washable items such as carpets, curtains, suits, coats etc.'Never keep up with Joneses. Drag them down to your level. It's cheaper.' Quentin Crisp0

Thanks for all the replies. I think the H2O x 5 one is the one I mean so if any one else has one of those I would be grateful for their opinion. I only really want it for carpets.
We have lived in our house for about 3 years and inherited the carpets. They are fine but are begining to look a bit scruffy. I just want to smarten them up a bit rather than replace them at the moment.0
