ideas for lamb mince.

Ok you lovely lot i need some ideas,

I picked up lamb mince instead of beef mince when i was doing my weekly shop:mad: Anyway instead of wasting it i was after some ideas as to what i could make out of it. I am not overly keen on lamb so want to make something that maybe hides it a little. i am a guessing making some sort of cottage pie but i am not sure what to do with it :o

You can use lamb mince for virtually anything you'd use beef mince for. If you want to hide the fact it's lamb mince then something like making them into meatballs in a curry sauce or tomato sauce would help disguise the flavour.

    A couple of ideas:

You could make into lamb burgers, adding some onion and mint to flavour. Serve in a bun with some salad or have with chips and beans.

You could make a moussaka. You make it by layering par-boiled sliced potatoes, slices of aubergine and cooked lamb mince (flavoured with onion, garlic, cinnamon, tomato sauce). Start and finish the layers with potatoes. Pour over some cheese sauce and cook in the oven (180 degrees C, gas 4) for about 35-40 minutes. Serve with some salad.

Hope these ideas are of use to you.

I make Kebabs, Meatballs, Patties with lamb mince. Kofta or Seekh Kebabs are nice and spicy and disguise the flavour of the mince. Delia has some recipes or try BBC GoodFood website.

I wouldn't try to hide it; it's never worked for me!

Years ago I'd go quite often for dinner at an old boyfriends' parent's house. His mum loved making bolognese with lamb mince. I hated lamb, but never felt it appropriate to tell her. We'd eat separately to his parents, and I would give the b/f most of my portion. Since it always got eaten, it would be made again for the next visit, as we'd obviously both enjoyed it. The cycle stopped after we got food poisoning from a dodgy burger chain, had lamb bolognese for the next meal.. no need to explain what happened after this! Anyhow, put me even more so off lamb, and finally gave me reason to break the lamb bolognese cycle!

    I haven't had minced lamb since :)

So yes, my vote would be to try something that works with the flavour of lamb! You could try to make some kebabs maybe?

I use it to make lasagne. Better than beef, for me! Also, Shepherds pie, or lamb cannelloni

  • Get some onions, chopped toe nail style. Fry in pan in lard.

    Add mince.

Get tatty peeler out, attack spuds.
Boil spuds and mash with milk, cheese and mustard.

Get dish out. Add cooked mince to dish, cover with mashed spuds.

  • When I buy lamb mince (which i do intentionally - I don't like beef) I usually make it into a spag bol. We eat two-thirds of it and keep a third back; then the next day add a value tin of kidney beans and some chilli powder to turn it into chilli con carne. That works really well.

So - I'd say try the chilli con carne. Plus how about using it as a base for a meat curry ? Both would disguise the flavour of lamb pretty well, I think.

As above I would add onions, stock and spices and some peas and make a keema curry type meal. Yum.

  • I second the Kebabs idea.
Why buy Kebabs when you can make them at home. Easy and stuffed into Pitta with Chilli Sauce and you never have to darken the doors of a local Takeaway again, they are so delicious.

Lamb keema would be my choice. You'd be putting a lot of different spices into it so wouldn't just get the taste of the lamb.
