Advice on Bearded Collies

Would love to buy one of these lovely dogs this year. I've been given a ballpark figure of £650 for a puppy from a breeder. Is this the going rate ? Would be willing to pay up to £500. Also , need details of any reputable breeders handy for Staffordshire. Apologies if this should be posted elsewhere....!

try this website misterjingles. They are lovely dogs but very intelligient, active and need lots of grooming. Only consider getting one, or any dog, if you can HONESTLY devote a LOT of time each day.:D

How about rehoming an adult one? http://www.shelterhelper.co.uk/modules/news02/article.php?storyid=51 - if they are like the Rough Collie Rescue (I have a Rough Collie) they have dogs all around the country. You are probably ok with their history as if they are like the Rough Collie Rescue - many of their dogs are just ones who's owners have died, become unable to look after them.

    Just an idea???

no probs, just always a bit wary just after Crufts ;)

....you are right, they are lovely, my mum used to breed them....my main memory of childhood is growing up being surrounded by puppies :p

Just sorry I can't give you any more advice about local breeders, have been out of the circle for too long. There will be a puppy list available from the breed club...get in contact with them and they will discuss the breed for hours with you:D ...there are details on the site I listed.

If you can't get a bearded one just get a normal collie, buy some glue and offer to sweep up the local barbers for free.....result!!

i have a beardie, and they do take an awful lot of attention for grooming, however my little cutie malts very little compared to my MILs retriever.
£650 sounds about right (mine was about £350 10years ago)

there are plenty of breeders around staffs area as when we were looking they seemed to be in that area, and when u meet another beardie often I've been told that the breeder came from that way. (theres defo a couple in stoke as i've been a house there where they were breeders)
the kennel club will be able to give you an upto date list of current puppies.

beardies are lovely, very lively, active, good with kids, bark alot due to excitement

theres also a bearded collie rescue, i know an owner who got a puppie from there and she was lovely. http://www.collienet.com/beardedcollie_rescue.htm

Why don't you adopt a rescued dog? There are so many dogs needing homes in kennels across the country... often homeless through no fault of their own.

If you do go for a pup, make sure you see the pups with their mum.

So many people are sold pups by unscrupulous people who are really dealers acting for grotty puppy farms. _pale_

Don't forget to insure it with a reputable pet insurance firm. Ours (JRT) ran out by two days (what a Muppet) - ended up costing us £6000. Still, if you take on a dog you must be prepared to look after it.
