School work and pay

I am applying for a job in a school and its term time only. The salary is advertised at £8,046.65. This is where I am stuck, is this what I would be paid for the year or is it like pro-rata (sp?) as I know I will not be working for 13 weeks each year

If it didn't say pro rata in the advertisement then you might assume it is an annual salary, because the stated pay might include a retainer for the school holidays.
However without asking the question you can't be sure. so I suggest you do that via a quick phone call before you go any further.
They need to be told that their job ads are open to confusion, if nothing else.

AFAIK they usually split the pay over 52 weeks.
So the salary is for the whole year and you get a twelveth of it every month.
Ask to make sure though.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Thanks for your replies, i wasn't sure if it would of been the pay for 39 weeks. I've just worked it out it must be for the year or it would be quite good pay this job0

my mum is a cleaner and a dinner lady in a school, her wages are worked out over the year and she gets paid the same amount each week whether it's term time or holidays (though she does her cleaning job even when the school is on holiday)

I've worked in a school now for 10 years (teaching assistant but now resource manager) and have never been able to work out my hourly pay. Mainly because of the council 'formula'.
Things might have changed now but annual salary was always 'pro-rata' based on (I think) a 37.5 hour job for 48 weeks a year. I think I get the usual 4 weeks paid holiday but the other 9 weeks are unpaid.
I'm sure someone will put me right if I'm wrong.
Just to add...
Have you thought about ringing the appropriate local council advertising the job, and asking to be put through to 'payroll' dept. You shouldn't have to give your name but ask about the posision advertised. There maybe a 'spine point' and 'level' in the advert as well as the salary you might have to quote.DEBT FREE BY 60Starting Debt 21st August 2019 = £11,024

Hi
I am a Teaching Assistant too, and get paid the same every month term-time or holidays. Albeit not a lot! You definately don't do the job for the pay, that's for sure! But it is the best job in the world :-)0 -

Hi, only just saw your post - so sorry for delay with answer but hope this helps.
I also work as a Teaching Assistant and used to be paid by local LEA. I also work 39 weeks per school year and on approx same salary as dawn.
Altho' we work 39 weeks we are paid for 43.5 weeks and our HR manager devides our grade (B, C or D) by 12, usually giving an equal amount monthly.
It is possible to phone your local Lea, HR dept and ask for pay scales/grades or approx monthly salary without giving your personal details. In my case the info was invaluable.
Hope this is helpful and good luck

Thanks for your reply, the job description is grade 2/3. I would take a pay cut if I did get the job but it would mean spending more time with my children instead of putting them in holiday clubs which is worth it0 -
Dawn:
Well done with the weight loss and good luck with the job application.
Though you only asked about the pay, take care with spelling and grammar in the application. I noticed that each teaching assistant made at least one spelling mistake and people reading the application forms may spot things like that and it may be important even if you are not applying for a teaching assistant job.0
