Hi Guys
I have been cooking mixed beans (from dry) in my slow cooker as I like to add them to salads etc..
I have cooked a big batch before hoping to dip in and use as needed but fornd that they go wiffy quickly when kept in the fridge.
So.. whats the best way to store cooked beans?

I usually make a batch and freeze them once cooled. I've not eaten them in salads from frozen, but they add to cooked dishes just fine.0

I freeze mine in single portions and defrost them before adding to salads, making hummus etc. Just take them out first thing and they'll be ready by lunchtime. If you are packing lunch then add the sealed bag of beans to your lunchbox and add them to the salad at lunchtime - bonus is it keeps the salad fresh too."Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass...it's about learning how to dance in the rain." ~ Vivian Greene0

Ditto, tell me about beans and what you use them for please.I ave a dodgy H, so sometimes I will sound dead common, on occasion dead stupid and rarely, pig ignorant. Sometimes I may be these things, but I will always blame it on my dodgy H.
Sorry, I'm a bit of a grumble weed today, no offence intended ... well it might be, but I'll be sorry.0 -
It is usually much cheaper to buy dried beans/chickpeas than the tinned ones. You are just paying for the beans and not the water!
Soak them in cold water overnight and boil for at least 20 mins, and then until soft. I use a pressure cooker so the 20 mins at full pressure is all it takes. When they are cold put them in portions in the freezer; they can be used from frozen in anything that you are going to cook, e.g. Chilli.
Kidney beans can be used for Chilli con carne, salads and soups.
Chick peas for Humus, salads, Indian dishes and middle Eastern dishes.
Other beans can be used in soups and salads and of course Baked Beans!
Of course if the shop is selling off tins at ridiculously cheap prices then that would work out cheaper or if you only use them once a year then it may not be worth your effort.0
