Could shop in local fruit and veg market and fruit and veg shops alot cheaper then supermarkets. In my local market nothings over a pound.

Unfortunately not here. Everything is much more expensive and doesn't really look fresh... (I often think the should have a combined fruit-/smoothie shop, would give them a much higher turnover which could lead fresher fruits and lower prices :T )

I also tried farmer markets but, not sure why our farmers only seem to produce candles and soap...

Just finished next weeks meal plan:

    Sat - Chilli Con Carne
Sun - BBQ - we have friends over (although the forecast predicts rain
Mon - Omlette - haven't had it this week
Tue - Letil/tomato soup - told you I try to have more soup
Wed - Halloumi Kebab with rice - again didn't have it this week
Thu - Burger & Salat - and another one we did't have this week (I wonder what we ate all week :D
Fri - Chicken, Salat and Pitta - yes we did have this this week, we just love it that much

My shopping list is very short. I am hoping to get away with £40. I'll let you know how we get on.

Have you tried dried fruit in your porridge? Soften it up by soaking overnight if you want, and if sultanas etc aren't your cup of tea, check out a large bag of cranberries from somewhere like Holland & Barrett.

I sometimes use grated carrot instead of more lettuce as lettuce seems to have little nutritional value I agree home made soups are brilliant especially as you can get away with almost any veg in soups and bulk them out with lentils for protiens

ladylouise62 - Will it still be cheaper when it comes from Holland & Barrett? Dried fruit in general doesn't seem to agree with low GL as it is very sugary... but I can see where you are coming from, always loved dried fruit and I can imagine them to be great in porridge ;)

Yes I think soup will be the way forward...

    Now to yesterdays shopping:

    (drum roll)

    £49.19 :T:T:T

I am very happy with this result. Although don't fool myself, I am fully aware that I will be using many ingredients I bought before. Need to be vigilant :D

We also have now 1 meal extra as we found a reduced pasta bake for 4 for only £2.25 and we thought we couldn't let this pass (Friday night is always our "none GL night" ). It was well worth it - yum yum!

So far we are doing really good. Not sticking to our food plan at all, which is good I would say. Yesterday for example we had leftovers from the bbq we had on Sunday ;) .

So all in all it seems to work BUT strange enough we seem to use much more milk this week ??? We buy milk usually on shopping day (Friday that was this time) from lidl, 2x 2 litre for 85p each, and then we get another 2 bottles when a friend goes there. This week we run out of milk yesterday:eek: . So my better half went to farmfoods and got 2 bottles (2 for £1.80). And now Tuesday morning and the 1st of these bottles is already empty!!! STRANGE

But we are still well into saving mode and we still have 6 meals left. Might just go and stock up the fresh stuff when we go again on Saturday :T
