How to get a business going

I started a site aimed at parents for children last year (like a what's on) which basically allows local childrens companies to advertise.
The problem is i'm finding it hard to get companies interested. Do you have any suggestions of what I can do to raise the profile? I've tried a competition, got a facebook and Twitter page and write new blog posts on it regularly.
I think it's a good idea and clearly works as its v similar to Net mums
The usp is that it offers business postings in the local area i.e. at the moment Kent. I'm also willing to start a franchise but can't afford ot pay the fees of some business sites, does anyone know where you can adveritse that sort of thing cheaply?
thanks

No companies will be interested in a start-up website. You will need to concentrate on the content to attract the visitors before you get the adverts. For now you could try google ad-sense or something similar.0
