my washing machine gets really uky.
Lots of mould in there, don't know why. . I wonder does anybody know a home-made version of a cleaner for it. I'm sick of paying nearly £4 for a bottle that only does once.

I use clear (distilled) vinegar. I also take the draw out and clean it by itself in the sink then leave it to soak in washing up bleach (the type that is used for babies bottles). If you have a dishwasher, twice over should also work then just use a nail brush to get rid of any hard to reach areas.
If you use the machine more then three times a week you don't have to worry too much as the water never settles to grow anything but if your only using the machine once a week then your best cleaning once a week or once a fortnight to keep the mould from getting out of control.0 -
Leave the door ajar when you're not using it. That way it won't go mouldy.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0

Try to remember to check that it's left open as well. My dad, who is bipolar and apparent ocd as well, always insisted on shutting it whenever my mum tried leaving it open when he was living at home.0 -
Also, use soap powder, not liquids. Powders contain bleach, liquids do not. Liquids leave gunk in the machine which grows mould. Run a very hot wash at least once a month, using powder.0

Thank you so much for that. I have only used liquid in this machine and never had any trouble with my other machines when i used powder, so it sounds like that might be the problem.
Thank you to everybody for their helpful suggestions.0
