New MAF

 October 2006 I received a mortgage offer from the Abbey with a non-refundable mortgage administration fee (MAF) of £995. Asked if I wanted to pay this fee upfront or add to mtg - I paid upfront.
6 mnths on...Regretably (through no fault of my own) the house purchase was not successful. It appears that if I had added the MAF to the mtg loan, I would not have had to pay £995, but because I paid it upfront I lose it! (Does this make sense to you?).
Should I just accept my loss or does anyone know how I can reclaim this sum as it was not my own fault that the sale did not succeed?
