New here.Seeking advice...
I've just got a Final Notice from wescot for an 415 debt (for O2). I'm indeed in arrears with O2 but only for 4 mth x 30GBP contract for a S**T phone.
I can't aford to pay anything at the moment as I'm looking for job.
What wescot can do if I'm not paying?0 -
Hello, i'm new here and didn't know if i needed to open a new topic, but here it goes...Last december someone from the BritishGas came to my house in the evening looking for somebody i did not know. The house was a shared one. He read the meters and asked for the names of the people i live with. I gave him mine and 2 more, saying that i m not the landlord and giving him the name of the landlord. After a couple of weeks i received a letter asking me to pay about £500 for utilities.I talked to my landlord asked him to call british gas to change the name from the bill. After another week a letter from Wescot came demanding to pay the outstanding amount. I talked again to my landlord asking him to fix this, he said he called and told them that i am not paying the bills, giving them his name as he pays the bills. I moved in february from there, and today i received a letter from Wescot "Important: Address Verification" demanding me to call urgently on 0844 to update my info or if i believe that the info is incorrect to tell them so they will update and stop further correspondence on this matter. If they don't hear from me until 24th they will assume that the info is correct. I thought everything was ok since my landlord talked with them. I don't want to pay a penny as i paid my rent with bills included, and it was only a mistake that they put the bill to my name for one month. What should i do? do i call them? do i ignore them hoping they will stop? i dont even know how they know my new address. i read some topics on them and i dont know what to do. help please with an advise! thank you0

As previous posts have said they have to be able to prove you owe anything. Also if a debt is assigned to a new company you have to be given notice. My suggestion would be - don't panic, do not speak to them on the phone & write asking them for proof of their authority & proof of their claim against you. Tell them that you will only deal with the matter in writing. If they call and you answer by mistake tell them you are only dealing with the matter in writing. After that, don't answer the phone if you know it's them! The most important thing is not to enter into any kind of agreement with them.

I ha e been paying Westcot for a while now for a loan I had with my ex husband from Natwest bank, whom I no longer bank with .I know the loan was originally for around 7 thousand pounds and didn't think anything of it when I got a letter from Westcot demanding I act immediately or face further action. I'm now concerned after reading this thread and don't know whether to continue paying or fight for a reduction on the total. I don't even know how much I've paid and have no idea what the original amount was. I'm not earning much and am trying to run a house on my own. I don't own my home, I rent from the council so what can they do to me?? Any advice would be extremely welcome. Many thanks in advance.0

At least you got a letter, I have asked for one 3 times to say I paid off my debt and it still hasn't show up!"All truths are easy to understand once they are discovered, the point is to discover them."

Hi Giz,
It sounds like you will need some further information on this loan before anyone can give you any specific advice:
was the loan taken out in joint names?
what year was it taken out?
it sounds like this was a loan taken out jointly presumably before you separated - what happened with the payments at that point? did you both continue making them or did you agree one or other of you would handle it? what is your ex prepared to do about this?
it might be worth starting a new thread on this on the end of someone elses thread which is a good few months old.
I would suggest you write to wescot and ask them for a statement of account to start with. you need to know how much the original amount was and how much you have paid off and how much you have paid in 'late fees' to wescot etc then come back and pop the specifics up and you should be able to get some more specific advice.0 -
Giz68, you need to start your own thread with full details such as when the debt defaulted, how much it was for, who it was with etc.Debt Free! Long road, but we did it
