I'm a new member, and this is my first posting
Where I live our local Asda not only does Ad Match (matching other supermarkets prices in papers, leaflets etc), but has now started to take other supermarkets coupons ( the ones where if you spend so much you get money off total). don't know if this is a local deal or everywhere, but it's definitely something to do with all those annoying leaflets stuck in the local papers!
Hope this is useful

Check the nectar swipe card machines on the entrance to some Sainsburys as I printed of a list of their BOGOF and they had tinned plum tomatoes on it.....when we got to the shelf that they were on...there was no sign or notice about it anywhere...so chucked them in the trolley anyway and sure enough at the checkout they were BOGOF....so saved us lots.....
This may help someone?0 -
It might seem obvious but check your receipt before leaving the store for any errors.
We mostly shop at Tesco but on the few occasions I have used Asda I have more often than not been overcharged for at least 1 item. If you point this out to customer services at the time it saves you having to go back.
Also the last 2 times this happened I was given, not only a refund for the overcharge but also a giftcard with £2 on by way of an apology.

That's an interesting tip about checking the receipt, it's one of those things that everybody knows but never takes the time to do- generally because i have just bought about 80- 90 items!!
But i do shop in ASDA so i'll check the next time i'm in- cheers.0 -

Check your till receipts for double scanned items too. My local Tescos often charges me for more than one of the same item. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

Some great tips on the psychology and tricks used - I knew some of them, but they're certainly an eye opener.
I know that Walamrt in the USA (owns Asda here) did research on "companion purchases" and found that putting beer near to the disposable nappies increased beer sales significantly. Apparently Dads buying nappies bought lots of beer :-/
On the salad front, no one has mentioned the obvious moneysaving tip - just grow your own. Seeds cost fracions of a penny...Jumbo

What's in your bag of salad, and how did it get there? Felicity Lawrence investigates

There is another factor this report does not mention.
I work night shift in a supermarket.
These salads are ment to be refridgerated, but they are quite often on the shop floor in a cage all night as they are one of the last cages to be worked and ALL cages (apart from the frozen food ) is pulled out at the begining of the night (10pm) and not took back untill the next morning (5-6am).0 -
I was driving along yesterday and decided to count the food delivery lorrys along the route.
the first 9 were food the next one was nitrogen!
then the rest were food and packaging for food
the supermarkets must use vast amounts of fossil fuels to get the food to us contributing to oil shortages and global warming
they fly in food from all over the world thus adding to the plane polution as well,
shipping the stuff was a clean option but its not viable in these days of no seasonal foods
we want strawberrys in december and were paying a high price for it0 -
notice when you go into the supermarket
whats there
birthday cards etc
next to them flowers videos books toys chocs cds
all to tempt you to buy a gift as well as a card
buy your cards elsewhere and better still, Make your own cos theyre a rip off as well0
