in Cutting tax
Couple of letters from HMRC last week.
Apparently, 2007-08, I did not receive the benefit of the lower tax band (10%) so overpaid £372.44 tax.
Then, in 2008-09, apparently, the medical expenses benefit included was higher than the amount taxable so I overpaid £410.89.
Trouble is:-
1. I cant see any 10% tax on this years calculation at all?
2. It says the calculation includes an overpayment for an earlier year.
3. I only got a cheque for £410.89. Is this all I'm getting?
Also, how do I check previous years etc?

Were these letters called P800's anywhere?
In response to your questions,
1. If this 10% is in relation to employment (or similar) income, it no longer exists.
2. Do you mean the latest P800 say this? If so, it's referring to the overpayment from 2007-08.
3. If yes to (2), then yes the £410.89 is cumulative and is all you are getting.
HTHExcuse any mis-spelt replies, there's probably a cat sat on the keyboard0 -

Yes. P800T.
1. Employment. So it existed in 07/08 but not 08/09?
2. Yes.
3. Bummer. but 08/09 doesnt mention overpayment from 07/08 in calculations at all? It just mentions income, tax paid, and allowances.....Cymru am Byth !!! :j:j:j0 -
1. Yes that's right, existed in 07-08 but not in 08-09.
2/3. Sure it doesn't say 'overpayment brought forward of £372.44' anywhere? Been quite a while since I've seen a P800T so I can't remember the format.
Alternatively, do you want to post the figures for 2008-09, and someone could calculate the overpayment for that year, and hopefully confirm that it's £38.45 (£410.89 less £372.44)?Excuse any mis-spelt replies, there's probably a cat sat on the keyboard0 -

Sorry you are right. There is mention of £372.44 on the 08-09 calculations. Looks like I'm owed £372.44 for 07/08 and then an extra £38.45 for 08/09 to give me the total.
How do I check if previous years were correct also?
Im assuming the mistake in 07/08 was my employers fault at the time? Seems a long time for the mistake to become evident....Cymru am Byth !!! :j:j:j0 -
whats the best plan of attack to ask them to check previous years as well?Cymru am Byth !!! :j:j:j0
