Hello all, fulltime wheelie now, thanks doc, not.
It cannot be easy for you to adjust.
Did you know there was a possible outcome of full-time wheelchair use?
I don't know how you feel about stranger well-wishes on an internet forum, but, in any event, I wish you well.Dear Lord, I am calling upon you today for your divine guidance and help. I am in crisis and need a supporting hand to keep me on the right and just path. My mind is troubled but I will strive to keep it set on you, as your infinite wisdom will show me the way to a just and right resolution. Amen.0 -
Thanks all
ab.da54, they were suppose to correct a problem caused by an earlier surgical error that let me a part time wheelie. The op was done by some prof who said they could do nothing, so plan B was pain relief, so nerve termination that did not terminate.
Oh well, solicitor for me now0 -
I know the feeling Brassedoff. I went on holiday to Cyprus at the very end of September last year having been fobbed off about my ever increasing leg pain and ever increasing painkillers / Amitriptylene since my first visit to the doc's regarding the pain in 2004! Broke femur whilst in Cyprus on a waterslide of all things and turned out it was bone cancer and I lost my entire right leg and a lot of pelvis into the bargain.
I sit in my wheelchair from the moment I get out of bed as I need a special cushion due to my now misshaped bum and even with that, sitting gets very painful purely due to not being used to sitting for so many hours a day. I'm resigned to being stuck in a wheelchair for the rest of my life now and am trying to get on in life but yeah, it certainly changes your outlook, the simplest of tasks are now like military operations.
Needless to say litigation is underway here too, and proceeding quite well so far. Good luck m8.0 -
Sorry to hear that, brassedoff.
Knowing that there is a risk of full-time wheelchair use, I turned down the same operation.
Have you got the consent form you signed before the operation? They should have told you there was a possibility that your current condition could occur and, if it's on the consent form, you won't get much joy legally.

I smashed my pelvis in five places and shattered my coxic (sp) so my pelvis is very badly mishapened and sitting is very painful for me but being a fulltime wheelie I dont have any choice, I have tried umpteen cushions and I still cant find one that really works for more than an hour or so so I spend most od my time in bed where I can recline more comfortably.
Im currently trying another air cushion, my wheelchair therapist thinks air is the best for me as they adjust to my unique shape but it's not very comfortable.
My new powerchair can be reclined to almost flat but you cant get round tescos like that! But going to the pictures is amazing now, Im so comfortable and my neck dosnt hurt now from being too close to the screen.
Pleased to have you back Brassedoff, I was wondering where you had got to and I was hopeing your absence was for good reasons and not bad, Im sorry to here it was for bad reasons.0 -

I am sort of OK on that score as the surgeon admitted fault in front of witnesses after the second op. that is the crux, plus a able host of errors. The third op was a last stab at trying to get me 80% of original use.
The sad thing is, I would trade anything to be back to normal. When my old aunties came out with the "at least you have your health", they were so right.0
