First of all.....Hellooooo from a newbie!! :j
Well, as the title suggests, i attempted to open a Citibank account so that i could benefit from a debit card, however, due to me being a discharged bankrupt (3 years ago), they have decided to decline the application. Are there any other banks offering debit cards that are likely to take me on? I really want to go about reclaiming my bank charges from my current bank (nationwide), but i don't want to do it unless i have a parachute account in case anything goes wrong.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I think you'll be hard pushed to get an account with anything other than an electron/solo card.
I have rubbish credit and got an account from both Barclays and Co-op. Barclays basic account does not have anything other than a cashcard. Whereas Co-op gave us an electron card.:: BCSC #71 but now discharged! ::0 -

Hi sumaspikey,
The Co Op have a basic account called Cash Minder that includes an "Electron" Card, I know that's not as widely accepted as a debit card but it would be a start. Your other altenative is one of the Cash Plus Cards; there are both Visa and Mastercard cards available.

Hi Mike,
We have the basic Nationwide account and I think we might be hard pushed to upgrade from there because they're about the only lender we didn't owe money to - "Oh the shame".
I hope there's a good turn out at the AGM, we're both of us looking forward to putting people to all the words we've written over the last few months. My O.H seems to have built up something of a rapport with Sooty0404 and his wit is awesome.
I'll bet the place we meet at will think we're mobsters or drug dealers, all that cash going over the counter with only one debit card between us.
I think you'll be o.k with your banking facilities, I can't think that they'd cancel them now or in the future; sometimes you're just lucky, things do slip through the net.
It was Jane's birthday last night and we had a little party, just the two of us, but oh dear, have I paid for it today; had a banging headache all day and we're decorating again this evening. I've just poured a vodka and tonic to see if that does the trick.

Well, i had one of those cash plus cards a while back. The only problem with that is it kind of defeated the point because of having to take the cash out of my bank and pay it onto the cash plus card at a post office. It appears they are now accepting standing order payments which would mean i could have a monthly transfer of my spending money from my current account to the cash plus card. That would leave the rest for bills.
Looks like my only alternative to the electron/solo option!
Any other options?0 -

If you are going to go with a PrePaid card then I would suggest you find one cheaper that the Cash Plus Mastercards. There are few out there that charge no monthly or Transaction fee!
