Is the UK becoming the next Switzerland

Just read the Spanish Bail out story on the BBC web site, the president explained how great the news was for the Euro but how tough it was going to be for the people of Spain, some people that is.
Then again you read commentators from the same BBC website and everywhere for that matter saying how a lot of the troubled countries money will find it's way into the UK, and quite often into our property.

Is it just me or does anyone else find this distastefull, these people are sneakly hiding away money when their people are suffering. I would love to know how much and how many people are doing it.
I allways found the idea of Swiss Banks grubby, we all know what went on, drugs money to !!!!! and all sorts of organised cimininal money being hidden away.

No. Tax rates are too high and the UK doesn't have strong banking secrecy laws.

No, of course not, that's a ludicrous assertion.

And yes, it is more than distasteful when anyone "squirrels away" cash and assets overseas to avoid liabilities and responsibilities at home.

If they are squirreling away a legitimate net surplus surely that is up to the individual?

If they are evading tax and or debts that it is a different matter. If they are avoiding tax that is a moral issue' something that that is by product of capitalism in its worst form..

We keep the pound because the debt is held by our citizens for this European mess, the pound is the fall back plan.
The EU countries dont have any real assets, the UK has hard working grafting people who have paid for their own things and those things are seen as the assets they can steal and use to guarantee the debt.
Make no mistake, we are holding the baby if this goes belly up.

It was a noted phenomena, during the run up to the Euro introduction, that sales of Bolt-hole villa or top line Beemer/Merc or even yachts all showed a boom.

The cynical (but maybe accurate) explanation of this was that people had large amounts of pesetas / marks / francs that they needed to make use of, and would rather not let it be known that they actually had this money to the authorities.

This Eurozone crisis has different origins, but won't it have the same effect on this type of person? They will always find a way of hiding their wealth, UK haven or not.

Why does "rewired" thank homelessskilledworker's posts no matter how stupid they are? I swear every one of his posts has been thanked by rewired.

I'm guessing they're the same person. Bit weird.

The skiing is nowhere as good nor the public transport system.
