Sky freesat - £20 for viewing card

I have just cancelled sky subscripton for package channels, am continuing to pay £10 per month to use Sky +.

Have been looking at Freesat as adv that I can purchase a card for £20, has anyone any advice as to whether or not this is worth doing. Looking at the list of channels a lot of them seem the very obscure ones that would not normally watch.

  • Does your current sky card not work for the free channels? I am sure mine does and I certainly did not pay the £20

  • Will have a check not sure what channels I get at the moment except 1,2,3,4 and channel 5

  • I certainly get a few odd channels, like ITV2 3 and BBC3 and 4 plus Sky 3. Other than that the free sat is nto as good as the free to view as that includes (or at least to do) E4 and Sky sport news. Neither of these is on Freesat

Firstly, if you cancel your subscription outright it should turn into a Freesat card. You shouldn't have to pay the £20.

Secondly, all the BBC, ITV and obscure channels are available to watch "in the clear" - that is, you could pick up any old digital satellite box (like the Lidl ones) and get all those channels.

The only thing a Freesat card will get you (over and above not having a card at all) is the ability to watch Channel 4, Five, Five US and Five Life through your satellite system.

I presume you are currently unable to receive freeview then??
Otherwise I would have thought a good freeview hard drive recorder would be better value than giving sky £10 a month??

  • I don't have sky but freeview is great. If you don't have it a freeview box can be bought for £20 odd, so it would be worth it for you to buy one instead of paying out every month.
If you don't have something nice to say don't bother saying anything at all.
