Default registered on my credit record whilst account was in dispute! HELP!!!!

Hi , I have just registered on here looking for some help and advice!

I have recently married and myself and my husband are looking for our first home to buy, we are both first time buyers with good stable jobs with a decent joint income, however no one will touch us with a mortgage as I have a default on my credit report form 2009 from a car lease company, the problem I have with the default at the time I was in dispute with the company about the money they wanted from me (they were trying to charge me for damage to the carpet they didn't Class as general wear and tare) I have since spoken to them and the response I got was well if you didn't want a default on ur account you should have paid it then disputed it!!!

Is there any way I can try getting this removed, are there template letters I can use.
We have no chance of getting mortgage in the next 3 years otherwise, we have tried for a gaurentor mortgage but again failed as I am not 25.
Ps I ended up settleing the payment after a long hard battle of gettin nowhere 6 months later.

Thanks in advance for your help!

You can only appeal to their better nature, dependant how you have been with them will hang it in the balance.
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

Except for the fact that the account was in dispute. Defaults should not be recorded while an account is in dispute. But don't let inconvenient facts cloud your posting style.

OP do you have evidence that the account was in dispute?

Show me a guideline that states they cant place a default while in dispute, the only guideline is about passing on to external companys when in dispute

    ico quote

"If we conclude that there is a genuine, reasonable and unresolved dispute between the borrower and lender, then we are likely to find that personal data have been processed unfairly if a default has been filed."
