short settlement

Hi all hope this is the right place to post this
Ive got a large debt with a well known bank and our paying a agreed amount each month. We have got some money togeather and we offerd them a full and final offer. We have just got a letter back saying that they don't accept full and finals only short settlements. any body know what a short settlement is. and is it worth going for.

    Hi I think its where they take a lump sum and then leave you alone for a fix period of time without phoning/writing to chase money.

    Ask them what they mean. It's either a settlement deal or it isn't.
