Bankruptcy and Nationwide

I just got back from town having gone into Nationwide to open a basic flex account.

I took in all my ID (passport, bank letter, credit card statement - even my BR certificate) and they told me it'd be a 5 day wait while head office processed it. Now i understand the card being 5 days but they wouldnt even give me an account number

I explained that i needed it to tell the tax credit office, so that my WTC can be paid into my new account but it stil fell on deaf ears. I had £100 to pay in too but wasnt even asked!

Has anyone else experienced this treatment? I know as a BR you cant expect open arms but this makes you feel worthless.

    Dear worried,

Please don't "feel worthless" you have as much right to walk this planet as anybody else does.

We had no problem with Nationwide but the girl that opened the account was really helpful and some bank staff are not. It was quite amusing because we both went in smartly dressed and when she asked the question "have you ever been declared bankrupt" I laughed and said something along the lines of "oh yes, first thing this morning actually" and I think she thought I was joking and didn't tick the box. We opened a Barclays a/c too and that was no problem.

Keep smiling, the sun is shining; "don't let em get you down"

    Hi there

I had the same experience when I went and opened my account. I opened it a few days before my BR and was told the card etc would take a few days to come. However, I was asked by my employees to provide evidence of my new account as they couldn't pay me without it. I went back to the NW and one of the assistants typed a letter out for me with the account details off their system. At this point, although I had received my card, the cash machine or the internet banking hadn't produced a statement so there was no other way that I could get any details at all off either. It might be worth you trying to do the same thing.

    Good luck
