Rebuilding with Vanquis credit card - Better to pay with direct debit or manually?

Hello,

I'm hopefully getting a Vanquis card to rebuild my credit, just waiting to hear back from them. Planning to spend up to 30% of credit limit each month, assuming I get it. Waiting for the phone call from them.

I will pay off 100% of the balance each month.

Is it a good idea to set up a direct debit to pay it off, or should I do it manually via cheque or online?

I just want the best option:

1 - So that the credit rebuilding works and I get the green ticks!
2 - To avoid any charges from Vanquis. I hope they can be relied on to take it out via direct debit in time so no late or interest charges?

thanks a lot,
Izzy

    Hi

I don't think it makes a difference really, as long as its paid.

I would probably make a manual payment so at least you know it's done.

I looked into getting a Vanquis card recently - I have good credit rating but needed a visa card for a particular website. Quidco were doing £30 cashback for new applicants so it seemed like a an good choice.

I may be wrong but from what I read they do not offer a direct debit to pay the whole balance unlike most credit cards. If this is the case make sure you pay manually and regularly to avoid the silly APRs.

It depends on your personal preference, personally I like to do it manually.

the direct debit will take what was outstanding at the last statement (if setup to take full amount) not the current balance on the date the payment is due. From personal experience, if you don't make an additional payment of the difference, you will get charged interest on the FULL amount. So after the first month the way I have done it is to allow the DD to take the full amount as per last statement, but I make a manual payment for anything extra, thus avoiding any additional charges

I pay what I have spent manually as soon as I have spent it - however I am very impressed by the text reminders I get each month giving me a week's notice before payment due date.

I have a DD set up for the minimum in case I forget to pay but usually pay off what i've spent on it each week when I get paid.
