Moving areas...

So my & my partner are looking to move to the south coast in a few years time and I'm just wondering how we go about start dates for new jobs.
We don't want to work as soon as we get there & would like about 4 weeks. We are planning on saving up for 6 months rent as I suspect that's what LLs will ask for.
I work for the NHS and will be applying for jobs in hospitals along the coast, plus I work for 2 agency which I can continue to go when we move. My partner works for a charity that have many homes in the area so we are hoping for a transfer or he can go back to retail or agency work.
How do we actually do this? Do we wait till we have firm offers then tell them that we need to work our notices and have time to find a place?
Of course it could take us a while to find jobs.

In a few years' time I expect things will be much as now.
You will apply for jobs and find what you want quickly or it may take longer. The new organisation will want to know when you can start and will expect that you will need to give notice to your then current employer. The amount you have to give depends on your contract (affected by your pay band and then length of service) and is likely to be one month but you need to check. The new employer will probably ask about your notice period during the recruitment process rather than when they make the formal offer, at which point they will be looking for a definite date rather than what length of time it is.
Getting extra time between jobs in which to find somewhere to live and settle in is not so easy to negotiate. You should be able to find somewhere during your notice period.0 -
How long can you live without work?
our next door is NHS and they were looking to move to the coast Southampton and sourounding areas, plenty of hospitals, could not find work so are still here.
If OH can arrange transfer that could be combined with using holidays and probably have some flexability on timing and give ideas which NHS jobs to look at.0 -
I would expect an employer to allow you no longer than your notice period between offer and starting. Unless you have specialist skills, chances are they can find someone equally suitable without your limitations.0

Sorry didn't mean would it change in a few years just that we are looking to move in a few year. Mainly asking how we should go about it.0
