Question to winners

I know this section is only for post regarding winners but my question is directed to the same people. Do competitions where you have the "option" of choosing to subscribe to newsletters and third party advertisements actually work for those who choose not to? I have been comping for just a few weeks with no luck so far (not complaining) but I'm wondering if choosing not to subscribe is an affecting factor.
Can anyone confirm that they win even though they don't tick those optional boxes? I never subscribe because I'm worried my inbox would be spammed

Was wondering exactly the same thing. Sometimes I do subscribe and yes have one email address full of spam.0

Hi, I'm relatively new to comping, I started in the middle of April this year and I used to think just the same as you. Wherever possible, I always tick the box "DO NOT" want to receive further info etc and I have been lucky enough to have a few wins already including an XBox console and a 3-night break to a French chateau.
Some competitions do not give you a choice, part of the conditions of entering is that you have to sign up for the newsletter, in these instances I decide how much I would like to win the prize and if I decide to go ahead, I make a note of the end date of the comp and after this date I then unsubscribe to the newsletters etc - there's usually a simple unsubscribe link in these emails.
So in short, I would say choosing not to subscribe to newsletters/3rd party info does not affect your chances of winning, or doesn't appear to in my case.
Hope that helps,, although I am sure there are far more experienced compers who will comment with their thoughts here.
Good luck and fingers crossed for your first win
PS - I do have a separate email address purely for comping!2025 £913, 2024 £72, 2023 £2230, 2022 £300, 2021 £1800, 2015 £3790, 2014 £44600 -

I also opt out, where that is allowed. I've won plenty of times, and I can remember reading something about this, I think, in Velvet Gloves sticky post on getting started. I'm sure most here opt out, and you can tell from the IWIWIW forum, it doesn't seem to stop wins. Perhaps might affect a small number of comps, but most comps, certainly the bigger ones, do it for publicity, though they're unlikely to be bothered about this enough to cheat.I am brave, I am bruised

There is a big difference between Spam and Marketing emails. Companies don't give away prizes out of the goodness of their hearts, they are trying to attract customers. I always opt out of third party emails, but getting emails from the Company who is running the comp doesn't worry me. You can get some great offers that you otherwise wouldn't have known about.
It should also be remembered that if everyone opted out of emails we wouldn't hear about half of the comps that we see posted. It makes me smile when sometimes days after a comp is posted, someone will 'bump' the thread giving dire warnings about the 'sneaky tick boxes'. As long as you're careful, you won't have a problem.Luck is believing you’re lucky – Tennessee Williams

I mostly opt in, but thats only because I feel guilty for entering a comp when I have no interest in the actual site. One day I might get round to unsubscribing to these. I always opt out of third parties. I have a different email address just for comps, but I do open up every email I get and decide then whether or not its just spam. Its not difficult as long as you keep on top of it.Current Aims: Laptop/PC, decent money, holiday
Best Wins: Ipad, Nintendo 3DS, £400 Shopping Spree at LK Bennett, £100 Boots vouchers
Total Wins (Since April 2012) £3442.56
