Hey guys, just got in from work and the computer was working before I left home this morning.

It's fully charged, wont start normally or in safe mode and is generally being unresponsive.

Any ideas?

Have you tried a SMC and PRAM reset ?

    PRAM Reset

    Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.

A PRAM reset normally works if the mac can actually be switched on.

Thanks for that, no, the computer won't turn on at all. :(

Trying to save myself about £1000 here, as whilst I have the money to do it, I'd rather not spend unlessnabsolutely necessary.

Is this a macbook/mac air or a mac desktop?

sorry, should've read the thread title ;)

If the mag charger connector has a green light to show fully charged and the SMC reset doesn't work then it sounds fairly terminal.

With the power lead in, hold the power button for 10 seconds and then try a SMC reset.

I feel your pain, I only posted a couple of days ago that my intel imac won't turn on either, I'm going to change the internal PSU myself though, good luck with whatever you do.

CK, you really need to tell us which model of MacBook Pro you have - don't open the chequebook yet. One suggestion that hasn't been mentioned is trying to turn it on without the battery attached. The battery may be quite easy to remove, or a bit more difficult if it's a newer integrated one (5 little screws to remove on the base, then another screw (is this one Y shaped?) to get the battery out. If you have trouble book an appointment at your nearest Apple Store instead of just blindly buying a new computer!

Book an appointment at a Genius Bar in your nearest Apple Store. It may just save you a few quid.
