Credit where it's due. Italy were the better side by far and deserved to go through. Rooney ran his heart out and Gerrard nearly killed himself. Credit to the lads at the back who did a great job keeping them out.

Well played, England - Roll on the world cup!
I agree - the scousers should be thoroughly happy with their performances and penalties. I'm such a big Stevie G fan :D

My nan used to get through anything up to 12 names before she got the right one :rotfl:

My Mum often calls one of my nephews George, she has never had a George in her family, unfortunately she never gets the other ones name wrong, that doesn't go down well. She has been known to call them Tigger a cat sadly no longer with us

It is sad, but why was Ashley Cole taking a penalty, where were the big paid forwards etc?

That would be the whole team then. 9 or 10 players behind the ball for most of the game.

England were poor, they looked like they were playing for penalties from about 30 mins.
I wouldn't say any english players played particularly well, the only thing I was surprised at was gerrard or young not diving inside the box, then again they didn't get a chance to.
  • Tomorrows Sun headline 'Ashleys to Ashleys' -perhaps?

  • Think it's a shame they used defenders to take pens! But they are the most inspiring team Englands had for quite a while.
