mortgage with default advice

Hi, hope someone can shed some light. My husband has a couple of old defaults that are all paid up but stay on his record for another couple of years. He's actual credit score is very high. I currently have a mortgage on my own, but we want to get a joint mortgage to buy a bigger property. We applied with Halifax and they declined him. Will his defaults effect my credit file? also are we wasting our time trying to get a mortgage whilst these defaults are still present on his file? We have spoken to one adviser and he appears to be pretty negative. I was thinking of contacting my bank who my mortgage is with, but i don't know if alerting them to his defaults would cause an issue with my current mortgage?

Some advice would be appreaciated.

Thanks:)

Halifax are the most flexible of the big banks and yes it will be the defaults causing the issue.

This does not mean you cannot get a joint mortgage, will just be a big harder and possibly more expensive..

When were the defaults registered? Do they appear on both his Experian and Equifax reports?

How much deposit are you putting down and how much is expected purchase price?
