Friday 8th June - What small DFW things will you do today??!

Posts: 169 Forumite
When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym.
But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free.
Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending.
So be proud of those small steps, they really are important!

Morning all, hope everyone is well.
Its another grey, miserable one here, but my last day of work before a 5 day weekend

* Check banks
* All meals from stores
* Pop in to town after work to find a birthday present and card for OH
That's pretty much all, mainly to be working hard!

I read this somewhere yesterday :
Think of what you want to achieve ( in my case to be debt free again)
Now write down 3 things that you could do that would help you get this
( so, 1/ start selling my junk on eBay, 2/ start making small crafts to sell, and 3/ plan the weekends menus from store so that no takeaways are bought or extra shopping )
Now instead of just looking at the list, actually DO IT, give your self a time limit to actually do it in...so I give myself 2 weeks and I'll report back. Procrastination is my down fall I think

Hello all!
The visitors have gone home:j:j At last, peace and quiet!
Just a few things today...- Popped to Aldi this morning for the few fresh bits needed and only spent £2.40
- Dog has been to the groomers and now looks lovely (it will last for about 2 hours!) - paid with a cheque that won't go out of the bank until I'm paid next week (that way I don't go overdrawn;))
- One load of washing on now (towels and whites) will dry on the airer
- Staying in tonight to save a few pounds
- Made packed lunch for visitors for journey home using up bread rolls that would have gone stale
- Gave visitors toasted bagels for breakfast to use them before they went manky (they thought it was very continental!)
- Will make lunch and tea from stores
- Check bank and do a mini budget to see me through to pay day next Friday
- Have a general clean and tidy round

Today I:
Walked to work from the station (I normally do this anyway, but I'm 30 weeks pregnant and struggling, so I will be getting the bus tonight)
Brought in my lunch.

Afternoon All. Thanks sunshine for starting the thread.
Well the (not so D)W and I finally had our chat last night. I guess it was probably as good as I could realistically have hoped. Any lingering hopes I had of a reconciliation were very quickly dismissed, and she didn't say much, but at least she listened while I poured my heart out and without too much in the way of arguing.
I'm not much further forward in finding out what went wrong, why she stopped loving me, or why she's not prepared to try to sort things out as a couple - which are all important for me to try to have some sort of closure. All she kept saying was "cos I don't want to"; but I think I feel very slightly better for having said what I had to say, and knowing that I've at least tried.
Saw the doctor today. My usual GP doesnt work Friday's so it was one I hadn't seen before, but actualy she seemed much more sympathetic than my own GP. I wanted to get something to help me sleep, but as I'm already taking tablets for anxiety/depression she wouldnt prescribe anything else.
She's recommended counselling. I've had mixed experiences of it in the past. The first time was awful and I quit after two sesions because it was making me even worse.
I felt he wasnt interested in anything that I wanted to discuss and explore, and instead he spent his whole time trying to go over stuff that I didnt feel was relevant. The second time was much better, but lasted only 6 weeks. I've phoned up this morning to book an appointment for an initial consultation, but its not until 24 July.
Financially, I'm still in a terrible state, and I'm wondering if I should sell the house after all, but the uncertainty around my job worries me too. There are so many memories here, but I did want to stay to provide some sort of consistency for the kids (one of my son's is autistic and doesnt deal well with change), and with me being on notice of redundancy, I didnt want to be in a position where I couldn't get another mortgage and would have to rent. I want the kids to have something to inherit when I'm gone.
I'm working away for a week from today. Not really sure if thats a good or a bad thing. On the one hand, it may get me away from some of the memories in this place, on the other, I will have so much time to think when I'm alone in a hotel room.
Sorry, I know that this post isn't really relevant to the thread, but I just wanted to get it off my chestDebt free since December 2015. It can be done0
