I have been trying for a while, I did stop 20 years ago for 3 years but after 3 miscarriages stupidly bought some on the way in to visit my wife in hospital. Did not know how to say chin up, these things happen etc. Been smoking ever since. I am now 45 & have smoked for 31 of those. As for the friend having trips, I do which is why it's only £130.
Thanks for all comments, gratefully receivedtopcat6562

Even as a smoker of many years (cough, I'm really only 21, honest
) if you're spending 130 a month on cut price fags you need to cut down a bit before your lungs fall out... 0 -
I am Salaried worker for NHS (Finance) don't laugh!! I have a sleep disorder over 3years now, that is some nights I sleep for 4 hours other nights not at all, because of this I am at the point where I am in the final stage of being dismissed through ill health unless, I can improve my sickness record dramatically over a 12 month period. Working with a computer all day, concentration has been a problem due to tiredness at the end off the week. Taking on extra hours could make the problem worsen. (Not trying to make excuses but I am not qualified in accountancy I have just done the job for 21 years so finding another F/T job that would pay 19k may be hard.) My Wife works 3 days per week (Nursery Nurse Under 5s) & on a Mon/Tues has her 3y.o Grand daughter so that her eldest daughter (Single mother) can go to work. There is a plus side to this my son is due to start F/T work in 8 weeks which will mean a bit more board & my daughter is looking for P/T work to fit in around her course. Not ideal I know but a start.topcat6562

Hmm, are you the kind of finance worker who could do a bit of book-keeping for small businesses on the side? Not being horrible either but I think your wifie and you should worry about yourselves at the moment rather than babysitting your grand-daughter. You've got a problem to sort out and you two don't want to be a burden to them in the future through not sorting it out, do you?
Do you think that your wife could find a better paid full time job, as she has some time to go before she retires?
Yep youngest son and daughter being self propelling is def. a start rather than poor old mum and dad carrying it all.
Really sympathise with your sleeping problem, it must be a terrible thing. Don't suppose the NHS would pension you off with a disability pension of any kind?0 -
you have to look to ways to increase your family income and I mean family. could your wife do something else at weekends, daughter get a job to pay college expenses, ebay, car boot sales..
you can definitely cut down on your food bill and if you check out the money saving old style you will find lots of ways to eat cheaper but actually more healthily.x x x0 -
You mortgage is on a 6.4% rate. are you tied into that? If your mortgage is with Woolwich/ Barclays you could switch to a new rate and save yourself £40pm or more.
If these
are through your lender, go to martins articles about insurances. You can save a fortune on these types of cover depending on your age.£16.43 Mortgage Payment Protection

Tied to current lender for another 2 years or £4.5k get out fee.
My Insurances are with Legal & General but as my wife is 55 & Asthmatic I think I will be struggling to get a better deal. I tried one of the insurance company quotes from this site & they would only give a joint application 10 years Cheapest was £163.00 that was without medical history being input.!!!!!topcat6562

Get rid of the mobile insurance, you are probably covered with house insurance. And i also recommend that you get rid of your overdraft first and foremost as you will be getting charges for all your debits as you are over your overdraft limit.Best wishesTO FINISH LAST, FIRST YOU HAVE TO FINISH....0

Hi
Welcome to MSE. I am pretty sure you could get these covers for less than £174 pa if you need them. Check out Martin's article on breakdown cover - the cheapest is only about £32 and includes quite a bit. Same with travel insurance - you can get it free with an A&L online account - if you go for the one with less interest - worth it if you are not likely to earn interest and do use travel insurance. Or you can buy annual insurance - check quidco to see what you can get there - you could get cash back. You are already paying for phone insurance - so this is not needed. I would scrap this and shop around for any cover you actually need.
Good luck0 -

When you say get rid of overdraft are you suggesting I use the new MS card instead of transferring a balance to it????[/COLORtopcat6562
