    unlike the medical profession then.

    pot, kettle, black.

how many people die under the knife and the relos just get told 'sorry he/she didn't pull through'.
The questions that get the best answers are the questions that give most detail....

My point is that quite a few so called IFAs, have risen to that giddy height from a career as a bank clerk and a course they were sent on.

Most professions have a career path. You start at the bottom and work your way up and take qualifications on the way.
I have an aversion to any sort of patronisation, particularly from an industry with a record that would make a !!!!! blush

Just of the record, IFAs handle 3/4 of of the pension transactions in the UK. IFAs account for just 1% of complaints at the FOS. A figure that has been declining for years. No-one can claim perfection but the figures do not match perception. Even the FOS said that a couple of years ago.
What I find unconcionable arrogance is the closing of ranks so that Joe, (or Joanna), public are simply unable to gain access to the information to make any decision at all.

You need to read this thread again as you dont appear to have understood the answers. If you want to buy direct then you need to use providers that retail direct. You dont ask providers that do not have a retail distribution arm how much the cost of retail is when they do not do the retailing.
I call anyone a fool who simply hands over hundreds of thousands of pounds on the advice of someone, without trying to do a little research on their own behalf.

A little knowledge can be a dangerous thing. There is nothing worse than a Daily Mail headline reader who thinks they know it all on the basis of the Daily Mail. You either need to learn it and understand it or you employ someone to do it for you. It is like any form of DIY. If you dont know what you are doing then you could end up making a right pigs ear of it. Or doing a fair job but not really saving any money or you could do a very good job of it.
I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.

and for the record, of course I wont be cashing in my lovely NHS pension. That would be the act of a fool.

I'd be interested to know how you arrived at that decision.

Had to look up pachyderm. Let's hope Dunstonh doesn't become as obsolete as some of the animals to which it refers.

I always choose my words with care. :D

    Pachydermata means "thick skin".
I am not a financial adviser and neither do I play one on television. I might occasionally give bad advice but at least it's free.

Like all religions, the Faith of the Invisible Pink Unicorns is based upon both logic and faith. We have faith that they are pink; we logically know that they are invisible because we can't see them.

They will provide you factual answers to questions asking facts. If you are asking opinion, advice or just overall comment then they quite rightly do not.
why not just give us a fact sheet about the product - that way there would be no opinion at al

and why do you say we won't give advice if we ask -i just don't get it - surely thats what the a in (i)fa is?

Annuities that offer any sort of protection against inflation are giving about £3500 -4K per year.

The drawdown is running around £9K. If I lived to be 130 I would still not come to the end of my CETV via an annuity
    quod erat demonstrandum

    !!!!!!

It is like you know words, but dont know their meaning.
