How can I stop my BR affecting my new partner

Hi

I have read a lot of very useful threads about how to deal with Bankruptcy and how to clean up your credit file. However I haven't found any help and advice on how to stop BR affecting one's partner.

I was declared bankrupt in July 2006 so next month my credit file will be clear of my BR and thanks to some really good advice on here, I have started rebuilding my credit file. I am feeling more confident about this as there are lots of posts and useful tips on the site.

What I am less confident about and would really appreciate any advice on is how my BR will affect a new partner in my life going forward?

I moved in with my boyfriend 6 months ago and I am terrified in case my BR will adversely affect his credit rating. I haven't told him about my BR as I am worried about his reaction.

At the moment, the plan is to rent for 12 months and then look at buying a house. I have already agreed with him that the house will be in soley his name to start with and anything else we buy subsequently will be in mine. That way we each have some security.

ADDRESSES:
==========
In the short term though, I have changed all my addresses; insurance, car, license, tax, credit file, electoral roll etc etc to our new (temporary) address to try and move on with my life and to rebuild my credit rating now it is nearly wiped clean.

He is still registered at his old house.

If he changes all his previous addresses/electoral role etc to the our new address, will this affect his credit rating as it is linked to me?

JOINT BANK ACCOUNT
================
Also we would like to open a joint bank account in order to jointly manage living costs and to share salaries but I am worried to do this as he wants to get a mortgage later this year. I feel a joint account linked to me will damage his file due to being financially associated with me but I am not sure how to get around this?

Should we wait until he has got his mortgage approved?

He doesn't know about my bankruptcy.

Any help on this complicated matter would be gratefully received.

Many Thanks

Jesca

    Unless you have joint accounts/debts while your BR is still on your credit record, then it won't effect him or his mortgage application.

    After the BR is off your files the joint account should be fine.

    Hi Fermi,

    Thank you for your advice.

    So just to confirm then, I wait until my BR is off my record on 7th July and then apply for a joint bank account and change addresses?

    So if in 6 months time he makes a mortgage application, in his name, they will see our linked addresses and linked joint account but this shouldn't affect his application?

    Can you recommend any BR friendly joint bank accounts or should I be able to open any bank account after July? I tried to open a Bank of Scotland account a few months ago and they would only give me a basic access account. Will more products be available to me in July?

    Many Thanks
