Rejected & We'll be in touch..

Hi guys,

So, I currently have: Tesco CC (Clear), Debenhams Store card (Clear - never use - should I cancel?), Natwest CC (now -£1,638.59 - paid £1070 off the previous balance yest, boyfriend paying £380 off next month and will clear the rest after my hols in Sept), Sainsburys (-£1180 <- Want to balance transfer this to clear beginning of next year.) I also have a loan from Sainsburys which is paid on time via DD every month without fail.

If it helps, my Noddles rating is 4/5 and no markers against me. Just waiting for my Experian report to come to check that.

I applied for the Virgin All Rounder CC yesterday and received an instant 'No', much to my surprise. I was then on the Barclays website so tried their 'Pre Application' checker. It said it was good news and said I have an 80-90% chance of being accept for their Barclaycard Platinum with 22months BT @ 0%. Applied with confidence only to be told at the end that they will be in touch? I've always had instant 'Yes' (excluding Virgin) so I'm a bit concerned and worried now :(

Any ideas? I've BT'd twice now - do they know what I'm doing and know they won't make much money out of me? Or is it me?

Thanks,
K x

I'm sure you're over thinking this, different companies have different procedures.

I pay my loan (£240 a month) on time and have done for the last year. That's finished in Sept 2013 so not too long left.
Both cards are paid every month with a minimum DD payment and then I top payments up with my debit card.
I save at least £250 a month towards clearing my debts (hence £1070 lump sum just paid off Natwest) - I want the card to transfer the Sainsburys debt for the 0% BT, not to actually spend on.

it may simply be that they feel your total debt is too high in relation to your modest income
0% deals tend to go to people with exellent rating and higher incomes
and they of course will assume you are adding further to the debt even though you know otherwise

Yeah, it's weird. I've never had a problem with 0% applications before!

But that was only when I had one card. So like you say, maybe they see it different. Even though I know I am responsible!

Applied for Nationwide 20 month BT @ 0% and was accepted online with their advertised APR. Just said they need to see some sort of ID which I assume is standard practice with them, as it said I was successful!

Wasn't standard practise when I was accepted. Applied on a Wednesday and card received on the following Monday and no ID requested.

well i did barclaycard pre check and it said i was 80%-90% for platinum and gold, but it is wierd as when i checked the summary box you need incomes of 20,000 or 17,000 per year which i dont have and did not enter in the earnings box so i wonder how reliable the pre check is. :)

according to the criteria you dont earn enough for platinum, thats why i find it strange they tell me i have the chance of it when i dont earn that, :)

Mrs is on £18k and she got the barclaycard plat
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.
