Homeopathic treatment for hayfever?

When I was pregnant five years ago I went to see a homeopath. She gave me a remedy for my hayfever. It was only one or two doses and it worked like magic! I cannot remember which homeopathic remedy it was. I have since lost her number & can't remember her name so cannot contact her to ask!

I get hayfever starting now - earlier in the year than most people. I think it may be triggered by rape seed (the yellow fields!). I really want to do the same this year rather than resort to conventional hayfever medicine as other years - can anyone help?

As all homeopathic medicines are based on dilutions roughly equivalent to one active atom in the Atlantic Ocean, it doesn't really matter which one you take.

They will all have the same stuff in them - i.e. nothing.

What you have experienced is the placebo effect.

In medical trials there are always 20-30% of people who even when given a dummy pill, show signs of improvement.

    That is how homeopathy works.

    1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
    2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
    3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
    4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.

if you get hayfever at this time of year it's probably tree pollen as rape isn't in flower yet.

Good point Toothsmith, but only if you are convinced that everything in this life is attributable to physical or psychological causes. Conventional science does not have proof for so many phenomena, and so scientists dismiss them as non-existant or attributable to psychology. But I would suggest to you that maybe we just don't have the scientific capability yet to properly investigate some things.

Remember when we all thought the sun went round the earth? It took developments in human consiousness to make us question that, and developments in science to give us the possibility of investigating our ideas. To think that our current scientific capabilities are the best we'll ever get is rather pessimistic!

There are lots of possible remedies for hayfever, depending upon your symptoms. I counted 17 in The Family Guide to Homeopathy by John Lockie. Your best bet is definitly to see a Homeopath to get constitutional treatment.

But surely homeopathy is taking things backwards into superstition, rather than forwards?

In a whole warehouse full of homeopathic remedies you'd be extremely unlikely to find a single atom of the 'medication' that's supposed to be in any of them.

If 'conventional' medicine was ethically allowed to give out dummy pills, then 'conventional' doctors would also show improved cure rates for people with chronic conditions that more scientific medicines had not helped.

I have actualy found the original little envelope that the pills were given to me in - yipee! I have just ordered them online. I was sceptical about them working when I got them five years ago but I swear they worked. I will let you know how I get on this time. I am a very practical pragmatic person but I honestly believe these worked before.

I'm not denying that they will work.

They will be great for 20-30% of people.
