We've just switched to a Santander 123 account which costs £2 a month but will give us more than that in cash back!

I wouldn't touch a Spanish bank with a barge pole these days....

Yes, I KNOW they 'claim' to be insulated from their ailing parent organisation, but I just plain don't believe them. Do you?

If i had thousands of pounds invested I might be concerned but as I haven't I don't really worry about it!

That's just the problem, I DON'T have thousands of pounds. I run pay cheque to pay cheque. If a bank went down taking my monthly salary with it, I'd be screwed.

I have one, after my Co-Op account got closed. The fee I pay is way less then the charges I have been paying before I switched. I've been terrible at managing my money in the past and they are helping me stay on top, for me that is more then worth the fee.

You can't go overdrawn with a high street bank basic account as they don't come with overdrafts.

My account (without any kind of overdraft facility) was taken overdrawn by the bank hitting me with bank charges. You might not be able to go overdrawn, but they can certainly take you there if they want their money...
  • I managed to open a bank account with NatWest back in October after I had to switch banks because of payday loans. I was surprised they said yes as my credit is pretty much destroyed but they did and I don't pay a fee, I have a debit card and access to online banking and I must say they're always fantastic to deal with in my personal experience. I guess I must have just gotten lucky!!!
  • Seen internet bank online called ThinkMoney, no credit check bank account for IVA, bankrupt etc... looks good.

Did you get a TM account - how did you get on?

While the charges are quite a lot, and prob more than most high street banks charge for, peace of mind counts for a lot.

I was fortunate to get a basic account with Halifax and Lloyd's just before getting an IVA.

getting your money away from who you owe debts to is def the right thing to do!
  • I have used them for 5 years, the thing that appeals to me is that in that time I have never missed a payment/direct debit, never gone overdrawn and know each week exactly what I have to spend on myself and family after all my outgoings, it suits me as I am not the best a budgeting myself!

I ve had a think money account for last 3 years.
its the best thing I ever did.
Sure I have to pay fee but compared to the £40-50 in charges santander were dishing out as well as missing payments it brilliant.
if you are disciplined enough to use a free bank account then go for it.
I like the fact that I can see everything on line its all worked out up to 3 months in advance.
customer service is brilliant and you can move money anytime you like by text.
