  • I've bumped the petrol thread. Firewyrm is a great font of knowledge when it comes to things like this and helped me a great deal (wouldn't even have known it existed otherwise:))

Wow, so many other replies while I was writing my last post.

Thanks to you all for the tips...I will sit down and re-do my SOA in the next few days once I have all my info together. I will also have a look to see when I would be able to get out of my finance agreement and look for a cheaper way to have a reliable car.

I am getting 42p a mile and have already planned to claim all the extra 3p's at the end of the year :)

I may well be moving in with my partner in the next 6 - 12 months (we don't want to rush anything!) which will help with the rent etc. Until then there isn't much I can do. Can't get a lodger and I am already getting an extremely good rent rate for my area.

Unfortunatley my work doesn't allow second jobs. The hours I have to work for them are stupidly high anyway (and no overtime pay as salaried) so don't think I could fit in a second job. I have applied for another job which is better hours and more money so fingers crossed!!!

I have been listing lots on ebay to try and get some extra money coming in but it doesn't make much of a dent after the ebay fees have been paid. Joined the survey sites etc too but it's little reward for time I don't really have to spare.
  • Seems you're doing all you can short of selling your body (don't do this, not a recommended course of action plus illegal :D)

How are you funding your current lifestyle if you're -200 each month?! Are you still spending on the cc?

I will pop over and have a look at the petrol thread in a minute, and will DEFINATELY be giving HMRC a call about the possibility of there being tax relief on the car. Thanks for that FireWyrm.

Rising from the ashes - I understand where you are coming from, but would I be able to get a 2nd hand car on finance? Could my current contract be signed over to someone else?

I get break down cover for the first 2 years and I managed to buy this years sevice on Groupon for £49.99 :)

Quick question...how do I paste other peoples posts in mine like you guys have done?

Think I've just answered my own question ^^^

I did think of selling my body but the other half wasn't too keen on that idea :rotfl:

The 0% on the CC's are from balance transfers to get out of my overdraft and stop getting the monthly fees.
  • Fingers crossed for the new job .... unfortunately (sorry to harp on) the car is really the only area to downgrade and try to balance the books.

If you can't get a lodger / 2nd job (are you sure your employers don't only restrict this to the same sector as you're employed in? My current employer has some restrictions but has no issues with bar / supermarket work etc).

Unfortunately the books don't balance ..... it's fantastic that you've managed to get the 0% deals but I just don't see how you can manage to clear these within the time periods without something changing (and indeed without the debts increasing due to the shortfall).

  • I agree with rising from the ashes, it not a sustainable lifestyle at the moment without getting more and more into the red.

If you're -200 each month with no way to get additional income in 12 months you'll be another £2400 in debt:eek:

other posters have said about the car but I think that a lot of money is spent on living on your own rent, ct, water, electricity etc

Can you not move into a house share? They normally have all the bills etc in the price and would save you the most, plus I assume your rent contract has a lot shorter time period to run that the car hp

Seeing it put like that is most definately scary!!!

I am going to have a serious look at the car situation and a serious chat with the OH about when we are likely to get a place together. Those 2 things will make the biggest difference.

einalem - I have lived in house shares before and it was never pleasant. I now have pets and a lot more furniture...plus the OH, so it's not something I am going to consider at the moment. Thank you for the thought though :)
