Heart-shaped cake tin recipe?

Any tips?

I have a heart shaped cake tin (3"+ deep), about 9" from the base to the middle of the top (where the two sides of the heart meet), no idea about a recipe.

I'd like to make a sponge, cut it in half with a cake wire, and then ice top, sides and between the two layers.

If you measure the volume of the tin, easiest way is to measure the amount of water that it takes to fill the tin, I can work out what the equivalent square or round tin size would be and either find you a recipe or give you the guidelines for scaling your own favourite recipe.

    Thanks.

    Have a set of three. 10cm deep (4"). 19.5cm, 23.5cm and 27.5cm long.

Smallest took 2.5kg of water. Middle 3.8kg. Largest was too heavy for my scales.

Smallest is 2500 cc, so the surface area is 250cm^2 , divided by pi, square root, * 2 = 17.8cm diameter, which makes it the same as 7" round tin, 4" deep.

So based on that the tins are:

    7" round
    8/8.5" (22cm) round
    10" round

    Was going to make this:

Not sure if I want sponge, or chiffon cake.

I could make two batches, the thing is the tins are not the same size.

And here was me just going to check the volumes against my conversion charts :)
4 inches deep should make sufficient depth of cake to slice and fill from a single tin - if you want more depth, you could slice into three layers, so two lots of filling which would give you a finished cake of around 5 inches tall.
Unfortunately I can't suggest which you'd prefer between sponge and chiffon, perhaps one of each ;)

I saw that one, but was looking for a plain-flavoured one for a deep tin, rather than a chocolate one for a sandwich tin.

I borrowed the tin so can't remember the depth but it was pretty deep. I sliced through and filled with buttercream and this was it finished.

Well I followed Delia's victoria sponge recipe for a 7" tin, and put half in the smallest heart tin, and the other half in a 7" round tin; the cakes were fine (we gobbled them all still hot), but much too thin.
