HBOS credit card help!! Newbie

Hi....new here...been googling my !!! off and can't find answers to my questions....any help is appreciated!
I had a bank of scotland credit card.....got it in 2000....my first default on payments was in late 2007....I went through a terrible time and was poorly in and out of hospital whilst trying to continue at university.....it has since 2008 been handed to 3-4 different seemingly shady companies as it's been sold off by HBOS.
I even tried to offer to pay the majority of it off in 2008 with help from my mum and never heard back from the company after writing them a letter offering a cheque.....I'd be happy to set up a payment schedule now I'm in a good, stable job and my health is great. Problem being these companies seem so shady and always demand full payment rather than smaller affordable payments.
I haven't contacted any of these companies since 2008 and have pretty much been ignoring it.......
Will it get written off after a certain amount of time? Can I do anything else to pay it off? It's only £1500 and I have no other debts and never have done. I reside in Scotland if that changes any finance rules.
Sorry for the long post......thanks for your input!!

Hi Lelia, the debt will automatically be statute barred 6 years from the date of any last activity which will include letters of you acknowledging the debt
